Just visiting

On the way home from taking the kids to their mom’s I got a phone call. It was from my favorite bartender and she needed a favor and wanted to talk. There is no love connection there or anything like that, we are only friends, but she’s a good gal. Anyway, she was stuck at the bar and was hungry, so she asked if I could deliver an order for her. It was only two miles out of my way, so I said sure. My brother wasn’t home (I was supposed to go over there after dropping the kids off) yet, so it really wasn’t a problem.  I ended up staying there until midnight talking to her and the DJ (who was off duty tonight) about the direction the bar was going in and music choices. It has been real slow there lately. I suggested to the DJ to play music that people responded to. If people were bopping to the music or tapping their feet that was good. If they were just sitting, not responding at all, that was bad. He is a young guy just starting out, so I think he appreciated the advice. I really am enjoying talking to people and getting out more. The bartender (Amanda) gave me a couple cokes so I didn’t drink alcohol tonight. I had a good time. I am blogging now in case I don’t make it home in time tomorrow. I am stopping over at my brother’s tomorrow to do some trim work. I hope everyone has a great day, I am sure I will!

I found your blog on google and read a few of your other posts. I just added you to my Google News Reader. Keep up the good work. Look forward to reading more from you in the future.

One thing I’ve heard of bars doing is having iPod Duels. Basically two people bring their iPods. One person plugs their iPod into the sound system at a time. Once both have played a song (or a playlist, depending on how you work it) the crowd judges whose song (or playlist) is better. Eventually someone wins a prize by having the best music. That person, often rapt with excitement, does a happy dance.

Then there’s always Rock Band or Guitar Hero. Lots of bars have had luck drawing crowds with Guitar Hero Fridays.
